Walk In Tubs Are The Solution To Independent Living

With age comes wisdom, amazing memories, and grandchildren. Unfortunately, it also means your body starts to slow down and becomes more fragile. You need to learn how to keep your body in the best shape possible so that you can remain as independent as possible. If you find it hard to walk down stairs, use the shower, and go shopping for your own groceries, then you are going to worry your loved ones. It is very dangerous to live on your own if you require more and more assistance. It is very frustrating, however, to rely on other people to take care of you, especially when you value your independence.
Therefore, you need to find out how you can maintain your independence for as long as possible! The first step is to age-proof your house. Start with the bathrooms and the bathtubs!
The bathroom is one of the most dangerous rooms in the house. The floor is often slippery and you need to lower yourself in and out of the tub and whenever you need to use the toilet. One addition you need to implement is grab bars. Attach these bars to the walls near the toilet and the bathtub/shower. They will help you catch your balance in case you might fall! The other important addition to the bathroom is that of a walk in tub. These tubs are incredibly helpful because all you need to do is open up the door and sit on the built-in seat on the inside. You do not need to worry about swinging your legs up and over the side of the bathtub any more and risking injury!
Once the bathroom is outfitted properly, you are halfway there. The next step is to make your walkways, floors, and stairs safer! Throw rugs are very dangerous, especially if they lie on slippery floors such as tile or linoleum. You need to get rid of these rugs and replace them with rugs that have a non-slip backing. You also need to keep your floors clean and clear: make sure all cords are along the walls and out of the way. It only takes a small amount of water or one cord on the floor to cause you to trip and fall! Also, make sure that your stairs have a secure banister that you can hold onto.
Make sure you outfit your home with a walk in bathtub and change out those throw rugs! Maintain your independent living status today with these few tips.
