Before You Pick Infant Bedding: Designing Your Nursery
Thursday, November 20th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedAfter buying a crib, the most important purchase you’ll need to make for the nursery is the baby bedding. If you’re looking for a special kind of crib, try shopping online. Not everyone will agree on which bedding set is the best. You should also remember that with even an inexpensive crib set costing over $100, it’s important to keep your budget in mind. To make things easier on yourself, decide on the style of bedding you want and how much you’re willing to pay, before you ever start shopping.
It’s important to plan ahead. If you’re having more kids, you can save money by planning for it now. If you’re having a girl, you might have decided on girl baby bedding, covered with frills and pretty pinks, or maybe something trendier (but still very feminine), like Pixie Stix baby bedding. But you don’t know what you’ll have next. Girl’s bedding won’t look right in a boy’s room. With the high cost of crib bedding, check out some gender neutral themes that with work for future babies, too. Budgets are important, so make one and stick to it. It’s tempting to buy a more expensive set because it looks cuter, but is it really work the cost? Everyone want the nursery to look cute, but remember that it’s not your room. It belongs to your baby and babies just want a warm, comfortable place to sleep.
Because of the limitations of size and geography, “real world” stores can’t specialize the way an online store can - which means they also can’t offer the selection of an ecommerce site. When you want a certain brand, your local store will probably disappoint you - you might find that they only carry one brand. There are very few local shops that carry the selection of an online store. And you’re not paying more when you shop online, either. Online retailers can almost always sell for less than a physical location can (lower overhead).
But, of course, there are also disadvantages to buying online - the biggest one being that you can’t touch or examine the bedding. An online will tell you that a blanket is soft, but how can you be sure? While photographs can show many details of the bedding, they simply can’t replace holding it in your hands. To reduce frustration and wasted time, plan a budget and a general theme before you start looking online. Otherwise the range of options can bog you down.
